Heuer Reference 13/1 PVD chronograph is an example of late-1970s design. Produced between 1977 and 1980, it is directly derived from the earlier Heuer Reference 12, sharing the same black PVD-coated cushion-shaped case but with a more complex dial. With its bold case lines and purposeful functionality, the 13/1 reflects Heuer’s transition into more modern chronograph aesthetics of the period. The case measures 40.5mm in diameter (excluding the crown) and has balanced proportions with a compact lug-to-lug length of 42.5mm, making it ideal size for most. The black PVD coating, a technical innovation at the time, offered enhanced surface durability. The case back is steel, screw-in type, adding to its resilience, while the original mineral glass crystal is in a very good condition with only minimal wear. The PVD coating is also in a very good consition, it shows only light traces of use on the edges. The PVD crown is also original and in an excellent condition The dial has a distinctive visual identity: while it appears to be a three-register chronograph, it is in fact a two-counter layout. The sub-dial at 3 o'clock is not a chronograph register but a date display, integrated in the same visual language as the adjacent counters. This clever design gives the watch a symmetrical, technical look while maintaining practical function. The dial, originally matte black, has developed an attractive brown tropical hue, giving this piece a unique patina. All printing and markers are well-preserved. Powering the watch is the Valjoux 7765, a hand-wound chronograph movement with 17 jewels and a date function, known for its robustness and reliability. The watch is fitted with its original factory rubber strap and clasp. Comes with Generic Watch Box. |
