Tudor 'OysterDate Chrono Time' "Big Block" Reference 79160 With Box

$10,161
The reference 79100s were introduced in 1989. The reference 79160 was fitted with a silver dial, black subsidiary dials, and a black tachymeter bezel. The designation of “OYSTERDATE” and “AUTOMATIC - CHRONO TIME” appeared just like it did on the reference 9420. This example is a first generation model, confirmed by the case number corresponding to 1989, the “T SWISS T” indication at six o’clock, and the trapezoidal indexes on the dial. Also, the caseback is from a reference 9420 and has the Rolex signature on the back; these were used in the earlier reference 79100s series. Interestingly, the crown is also from Rolex, as seen from the coronet with the three dots for the Rolex Triplock Crown. The bracelet was beefed up to a sturdier version, the reference 78360, but with a Tudor signature. A Valjoux caliber 7750 with a half-moon shaped automatic rotor can be seen inside. The neat part of this watch is that it comes with the original outer and inner box in meticulous condition.

THE NITTY GRITTY
The watch is in overall great condition. The case is in very good condition without many flaws to mention; the satin finish and polished finishes on the surfaces are still clearly visible. The caseback on this watch is stamped as “9420,” which is consistent with some other earlier examples of this reference. The bracelet is still in very good condition with very light surface scratches and a bit of stretch from wear. The bezel shows minor surface scratches. The crown shows some wear, indicated by the small holes on the tip of the Rolex crown and one of the dots. The dial is in excellent condition, attractively aged without any disturbance on the lume plots. The hands show some aging and the lume on the hands have gently aged overall. The movement is in running condition and the chronograph function is starting, stopping, and resetting correctly. The date function is advancing as it should as well.
